Last week we talked about how well our solar protection solutions match with swimming pools. Now, we want to focus on pools, the main element of summer outdoor activities, that makes us enjoy the fullest althought requires preventive measure. Here you have some of them.
- Surveillance. Children must be closely supervised by an adult, better from the same water. Although the pool has a lifeguard service, you should not delegate all the responsibility on it.
- Learn to swim. It is very important children can swim as soon as possible. If they can swim and float, they will be able to avoid risks in case of unexpected falls in to water. But it doesn’t mean that swimming children do not need surveillance, they can be too tired to reach the pool edge, or can be out of their depth…
- Additional security. Rubber rings, arm wings and other flotation aids are to avoid the fear of water more than for safety. The best security is constant surveillance although these elements certainly help and arm wings, for example, must be put out of the water to prevent accidental falls into the pool.
- Safe water games. Make understand children not to not run off the edge of the pool, not to dive in water headfirst or to close to the pool’s edge,… it is a hard but essential task.
Finally, it is important to talk about three things we consider essential in a pool: a non-slip pavement in the pool area to avoid slippings and injuries, a pool access with good grips that take into account the height of children and, if they are under six years, a perimeter fence to prevent them from approaching the shore without the company of an adult.
